An agency within the U.S. Department of Transportation changed course under pressure from the Trump Administration to approve a liquified natural gas (LNG) terminal off the cost of Louisiana.
On March 21, the Maritime Administration (MARAD) issued a license to build the Delfin LNG export terminal off the coast of Cameron Parish, in Southwest Louisiana. The terminal was first proposed in 2015 and has faced multiple delays. If built, it would be capable of exporting up to 13.2 million metric tons of LNG every year.
MARAD had previously stated that Delfin LNG would have to submit an amended application before a final approval could be issued. But the agency ended up issuing a final approval without a revised application, citing Trump’s executive order to "unleash American energy."
