Blue Energy has proposed building a 1,100-megawatt gas power plant southeast of Victoria to provide electricity for nearby data centers.
The privately owned company based in Chevy Chase, Maryland, on June 23 applied for local property tax breaks, including from Bloomington Independent School District, under a state program. The company’s application says it plans to eventually install nuclear reactors at the site, phasing out the gas power plant switching to 1,500 megawatts of nuclear energy by 2032.
Electricity at the site would power a 1,600-acre artificial intelligence complex planned by Colorado-based data center developer Crusoe at the Port of Victoria in Calhoun County. An October 2025 news release announcing the partnership included supportive quotes from the Port’s director and Republican U.S. Rep. Michael Cloud.
In its application, Blue Energy stated that its power plant site, located about six miles from the existing 2,700-megawatt South Texas Project nuclear plant, “benefits from strong energy infrastructure proximity and a supportive regulatory environment.”
