Federal authorities have received an application to build a liquified natural gas (LNG) export terminal off the coast of Matagorda, Texas.
The Maritime Administration is accepting comments until Aug. 5 on the proposed ST LNG terminal 12 miles offshore, which would include a new 5.5 -mile-long pipeline to supply gas to the facility.
The facility is the second such export terminal proposed for the Texas coast in two weeks. On June 26, a company called Coastal Bend LNG proposed building a new LNG terminal somewhere along the Coastal Bend region of Texas, which includes Corpus Christi.
Texas currently has two operating LNG terminals – Freeport and Corpus Christi – plus three under construction.
