Public hearings scheduled Oct. 22-23 on VA natural gas pipeline

Virginia regulators are planning two hearings next month on permits for a nearly 27-mile natural gas pipeline project in the state.

On Oct. 22, the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will hold a meeting regarding a permit that would allow impacts to 14 acres of wetlands as part of the Southeast Supply Enhancement Project, an expansion of the Transco pipeline network in Virginia and North Carolina. The project also involves modifying piping and compressor stations in both states, along with Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina.

The DEQ will also hold a public meeting on Oct. 23 on a proposed water quality certification for the project.

Both meetings will be 6 p.m. on Oct. 22 and 23 at the Institute For Advanced Learning and Research's Barkhouser Auditorium, located at 150 Slayton Ave., Danville, VA 24540.

The DEQ is accepting comments on both permits until Nov. 10. See the agency’s project page for more information.
