The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) will hold a public meeting on the pending construction permit for the proposed Enbridge Ingleside Blue Ammonia Plant in San Patricio County, Texas, on September 5, 2024.
If constructed, the facility could produce up to 2.8 million metric tons of ammonia per year. The plant would use natural gas as a feedstock, but the companies intend to use carbon capture to sequester up to 95 percent of the new emissions underground. Ammonia produced using carbon capture is marketed as "blue" and low emissions, even though carbon capture and storage remains an untested technology at scale.
Potential emissions increases from this construction include 3,376,117 tons per year of greenhouse gases, 356.55 tons per year of criteria air pollutants, and 17,460 pounds per year of hazardous air pollutants.
The public meeting will be held on September 5 at 7:00 pm at the Portland Community Center, 2000 Billy G. Webb Drive in Portland, Texas.
