Resynergi, a startup planning a facility to chemically process waste plastics in Sonoma County, California, is moving its project to another state.
The company announced on Sept. 25 that it would relocate the plant away from its planned Rohnert Park location as it seeks a new “regulatory environment” and tax incentives. The company will build the facility in an industrially zoned area, the announcement states, though it does not specify where.
Resynergi plans for the facility to use microwave energy to break down plastic waste into pyrolysis oil, which can be used to make new plastics or fuel. Its proposal sparked community opposition, with an online petition launched in August demanding a stop to the project garnering more than 5,500 signatures.
