Pipeline rupture in WY sparks fire near train cars with hazardous chemicals

Flames from a ruptured natural gas pipeline in southern Wyoming illuminated the sky, creating a glow seen more than 60 miles away.

The rupture on a Kinder Morgan pipeline shortly before 1 a.m. was within about 40 feet of train cars carrying hazardous materials, local emergency officials told the Associated Press. The flames blackened the train cars but did not ignite their contents.

The glow from the fire could be seen as far south as Loveland, Colorado. Firefighters had controlled the blaze by 9 a.m., according to the AP.
