A company has proposed another new liquified natural gas (LNG) export terminal in Louisiana, a state with multiple LNG projects already operating and under review.
Argent LNG recently announced plans to build its export facility on 144 acres at the Port of Fourchon, west of Belle Pass and nearly 60 miles south of New Orleans. Construction of the terminal would require the Port to dredge and widen the Belle Pass Channel.
This year, Argent signed a lease at the Port of Fourchon, where another LNG facility, the Fourchon LNG Terminal, was also proposed but is now on hold. The land where Argent plans to build the facility is within less than a mile of two natural gas pipelines, the company’s website states.
The company plans the terminal to begin operating in “early 2030.” If built, the terminal would be capable of producing up to 20 million metric tons of LNG every year. It plans to supply fuel for power generation in Japan, Southeast Asia, Europe, South America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and North Africa.
