New liquified natural gas export terminal proposed for Texas coast

A company called Coastal Bend LNG has proposed building a new liquified natural gas (LNG) terminal somewhere along the Coastal Bend region of Texas.

The privately held company on June 26 said it would build a plant capable of liquifying and exporting up to 22.5 million tons per year, with up to five liquefaction units, a power generation facility, storage tanks, and export facilities. It announced plans to include carbon capture at the site.

The company, which has not yet announced a specific location, plans to begin the initial stage of the application process with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission sometime this year.

Texas currently has two operating LNGterminals – Freeport and Corpus Christi – plus three under construction.
