Meetings planned Sept. 2, 4 on water quality permits for NC natural gas pipeline

North Carolina regulators will hold two public meetings on Sept. 2 and 4 regarding a proposed 28-mile gas pipeline in the northern part of the state.

Pipeline company Williams is seeking water quality approvals from the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) for the Southeast Supply Enhancement Project, located between Winston-Salem and Greensboro. The company is seeking to add more capacity to its existing Transco pipeline system.

Construction on the project, which also includes modifications at compressor stations and other facilities, would impact 11.2 acres of wetlands. The DEQ will hold two meetings on the applications:

The first will be 6 p.m. Sept. 2 at the Rockingham Community College Advanced Technologies Building Auditorium at 560 County Home Road, Wentworth, NC 27375.

The second will be 6 p.m. Sept. 4 at the Kernersville Municipal Council Chambers at 134 East Mountain St., Kernersville, NC 27284.
