After already receiving tens of millions in Louisiana tax breaks, Indorama Ventures has again applied for tax incentives for its chemical production facility, which has emitted air pollution beyond its legal limits.
On Nov. 21, 2024, Indorama Ventures Olefins applied for tax breaks through Louisiana's Industrial Tax Exemption Program to expand its plant in Calcasieu Parish, in Southwest Louisiana. The facility manufactures ethylene, a key ingredient in plastics and other chemicals.
The program offers an 80 percent abatement on property taxes over 10 years and is among the largest industrial subsidies in the U.S.
The state of Louisiana previously awarded the company at least $73 million in tax breaks to restart the facility, which has experienced repeated mechanical failures that led to emergency flaring of gases beyond the legal limits set in its Clean Air Act permit.
