The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission last month approved four measures meant to speed up the development of pipelines and other natural gas facilities.
On June 18, commissioners approved a one-year waiver on an order that stalls construction while challenges to past FERC decisions are pending. FERC also issued a proposal to make this change permanent.
The commission also approved a two-year waiver to increase the size and number of projects that qualify for blanket approvals, as long as they begin operating before May 31, 2027. FERC increased the cost limits for such projects from $41.1 million to $61.65 million.
This means projects that cost $61.65 million or less would not need individual approvals. FERC also began the process of making that increased cost limit permanent.
