The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is requesting public comments about environmental concerns related to the proposed Sabine Pass Stage 5 Expansion Project in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, near the Texas border.
The comments will aid FERC in its decision-making process to determine whether the liquid natural gas expansion is in the public interest. The Stage 5 expansion includes construction of two large-scale liquefaction facilities, each capable of producing 7.0 million metric tons of LNG per year, two LNG storage tanks, and supporting infrastructure including pipelines.
Potential pollution increases associated with the project include 4,264,311 tons per year of greenhouse gases, 170 tons per year of particulate matter, and 170 tons per year of nitrogen oxides.
Comments must be submitted no later than 5:00 pm on September 3, 2024. Instructions for submitting comments and more information about the project can be found in the public notice.
