Explosions rock two refineries in California and Texas over past week

Refineries in California and Texas have been hit with two major explosions and fires in the past week, according to news reports.

On Oct. 2, an explosion and fire rocked a Chevron refinery in El Segundo, near Los Angeles, according to multiple news outlets, which reported no injuries. Flames shot into the sky as residents were advised to stay inside.

Emergency responders had the fire under control the following day. However, the refinery’s closure led to some experts predicting higher fuel prices in the state.

Then, on Monday, an explosion left three people with minor injuries at a Oneok refinery in Mont Belvieu, outside of Houston. The company told news outlets that the fire was “quickly extinguished.”
