Energy Secretary says U.S. will sell more natural gas to Europe

During a visit to Poland this week, U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright predicted that shipments of liquified natural gas (LNG) to Europe would continue to rise.

Wright told news agency Reuters that LNG exports would ramp up even as U.S. relations with Europe have soured under President Donald Trump. Trump’s tariffs on European exports and Vice President JD Vance’s comments about security, free speech, and migration policies have led some leaders to suggest putting more distance between Europe and the U.S.

However, European countries have also leaned on the U.S., the world’s largest LNG exporter, to replace gas supplies from Russia, whose invasion of Ukraine has led to sanctions that reduced gas flows via pipelines to Europe.

"The U.S. supply will continue to grow in a meaningful way. There's a lot of dialogue about contracts," Wright told Reuters. "I think we will absolutely see more off-take agreements for LNG from the U.S. in Europe."
