Construction is resuming on a partially completed liquified natural gas (LNG) export terminal in Southeast Texas, though developers are seeking more time to finish the project.
On Aug. 28, 2024, Golden Pass LNG submitted a request to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for a second extension of time, until Nov. 30, 2029, to finish building the terminal in Jefferson County, Texas, near the Louisiana state line.
Golden Pass LNG has been importing natural gas to the facility since 2010 and received federal approval to export gas in 2016. Construction on its export facilities began in 2019 under a partnership between QatarEnergy and ExxonMobil.
Construction stalled earlier this year due to a dispute with San Antonio-based Zachry Holdings, the project’s lead construction contractor. Last month, a bankruptcy court approved a settlement allowing Zachry to exit the project, allowing construction to resume.
Public comments on the deadline extension request are due by 5 p.m. Eastern Time on Sept. 15, 2024. For more information on the project and instructions for submitting comments, see the public notice.
