Pipeline company Energy Transfer announced in December that it would hold off on developing its Lake Charles LNG project.
In a Dec. 18 statement, the company said it would instead focus on its “significant backlog” of natural gas pipeline projects with “superior risk/return profiles.” The company said it remains open to discussions with other companies who may want to develop Lake Charles LNG.
The project is among a wave of new liquified natural gas export terminals planned for Southwest Louisiana. The proposals have drawn opposition from local fishing communities and environmentalists concerned about they would affect wetlands and other fish habitat.
The project was proposed for Calcasieu Parish next to an existing LNG import terminal and was designed to produce up to 16.45 million metric tons of LNG per year.
