The rush to develop carbon dioxide storage in Louisiana continues with a Houston-based company applying to drill two test wells in two parishes.
On Aug. 2, 2024, River Parish Sequestration applied to drill two test wells in southeastern Louisiana, one in Assumption Parish and one in Ascension Parish. These types of wells are often used to collect geotechnical information for projects intended to store carbon dioxide from heavy industry, rather than releasing it to the atmosphere.
Blue Sky Infrastructure, the company planning the River Parish Sequestration Hub, has previously been approved to drill two test wells and has six applications for carbon injection wells currently pending.
