Analysts: U.S. faces largest natural gas pipeline expansion since 2008

Driving by rising demand for exports, power-hungry data centers, and manufacturing, analysts are anticipating the largest natural gas pipeline expansion in nearly 20 years.

According to Pipeline and Gas Journal, 12 large new and expanded pipeline projects across Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma will be finished next year. Combined, these projects could transport more natural gas than is consumed daily in Canada.

Nationwide, the U.S. could see nearly 18 billion cubic feet of new capacity added this year, the publication stated, citing a new analysis from credit ratings agency Morningstar DBRS. Demand for more gas is mainly coming from companies exporting liquified natural gas and utilities seeing electricity demand spike from new data center proposals and industrial users, the journal reported.
